06:31 pm - Holiday cartoons
To go with elina's post, the last of our cartoons from my miniscule bee notebook :) These were cartoons of the 'I draw one, you draw one' variety, drawn on a rather bumpy bus ride to Temple Cloud :)

silly cartoons beneath the cut :D )

04:57 pm - Collapse ;)
Recovering from a lovely holiday-at-home with some Holmes friends. Saw [info]elina_elsu & [info]harriet_kaarre off at Temple Meads yesterday, then drew a bit, watched Jeeves and Wooster, and woke up after noon. :p

We managed to run (or at least bus) about Bristol a fair bit, though the museum queue was still too long for a visit. We visited the bridge, and the Book Barn out near Temple Cloud where I bought a truly terrifying 'choose your own adventure' Holmes book. I have also been introduced to The Star of Africa, and many books were looked at, and cartoons drawn. ;D [info]wolfie_sara joined us on Friday, and on Sat we went up to the downs and met with [info]le_russe_satan and [info]latin_cat for a slash fan picnic, followed by Russian Holmes. The sight of Mrs Bee 'flying' around one of the trees on her string was most amusing ;)

In other news: My new monitor came on Wednesday (yes, I finally chose one.) It's a Dell 2209WA, and pretty much a compromise between my quids and wanting a largeish IPS monitor. OTT backlight (bah!), but lovely for the kind of drawing stuff I do. SL is shiny on the big screen, now that I have a puter that can cope with it.

In yet other news: My mum's knee is now doing really well, apart from a bit of stiffness...but unfortunately her ankle and hip are still hurting from the fall she had after her surgery. Typical, eh? Oh, and her nice physiotherapist is off work due to ... hurting herself in a fall. >.< Life as normal in the [info]spacefall household, then. ;)

A few tiny cartoons to follow ;D

03:00 pm - SH22 H/W :)
[info]daylyn wrote SH22 fic with Holmes/Watson.
And did I mention that [info]daylyn wrote SH22 fic with Holmes/Watson.
Also, day...yeah. ;)

Bugger, I wish I didn't have so many jobs to do!

06:18 pm - Aaagh, the burning
It's bonfire time in the churchyard. You know, just when has their windows open and really wants to be blinded/choked by smoke on a muggy day. Great for the asthmatic kids in the house! Thanks, church caretaker!
Current Mood: choking to death.

10:46 pm - The excitement...
[info]elina_elsu and [info]harriet_kaarre are visiting soon. This is ace.

I have not cleaned a bloody thing. That is less ace.

Well, OK, I washed up four cups and moved some books from one side of the room to another.

...

If you see me on Saturday, poke me with a spork and tell me to Clean That Bloody Place Up, won't you?

08:10 pm - The end is nigh!
I handed in my notice at work today. Not unexpected, and no grudges held. My semi-cunning plan is to return to my studies for a bit, and take a few courses related to BSL and Deaf history & culture. Queer Victorians, Deaf Victorians ...come on, you know I can't help but go there. The Centre for Deaf Studies is doing some cool things recently including an MSc led by Paddy Ladd that is Deaf culture and Postcolonialism on toast. I'm not sure I could handle it without brain asplodey, but it should be possible to cover some of the material in short course form, thereby absorbing Interesting Stuff while considering whether it's something I'd like to pursue.

blathery blather, good old Deaf and queer Victorians ;) )

10:18 pm - Holmes/Watson snugglage
Hastily drawn, in reply to [info]elina_elsu and her snugglepic :) I was sneakily drawing it all the time we were chatting ;) Posted along with weird arm because...bed.

Edited in an attempt to make it look like Holmes has *eyelids* rather than a zombie stare ;D

snuggle beneath cut. no toesies. )

06:36 pm - Sheffield Stand Shocker
Our little village has suddenly gone all bike week and has pairs of sheffield stands everywhere! No more finding the two stands full of motorbikes, or locking the bike to the back of a bench (with handlebar origami to avoid it being in the way.)

Yes, I know I only live a short walk from the village, but I'm lazy enough to ride for those quick emergency ginger beer / painkillers missions ;)

08:31 am - Now who's been a naughty detective?
I'm willing to forgive a lot about the new film for the truly hilarious and kinky-looking Holmes & Watson posters ;D For a start, they clear up one of my difficulties with the film's wardrobe: why does Holmes wear a superfluous belt along with his braces and waistcoat? It was a mystery for some time, but looking at Watson in the poster... it's clearly not for holding his trousers up. Quite the opposite, in fact ;) Add the fact that Watson has 'Crime Will Pay' written on his crotch and my mind is permanently derailed ...and has rolled down an embankment into a field full of kinky HW, crushing reality on the way.

The posters )

Cheers, [info]ichthyosaur, for sharing the fun. I'm not sure whether you intended that the film instantly become a BDSM AU in my mind, but I promise that it has increased my potential enjoyment fivefold.

I can just imagine the scenes now...

W: Holmes, I'm getting married! I can't just top for you at the drop of a hat any more!
H: *beltfiddle*
W: Well...just this once, but there had better not be any explosions this time or I'll be really pissed off.

06:14 pm - Bristol Beer and Blake's 7
In better news (and because Steve prodded me): Saturday the 18th of July is Bristol Beer & B7. This means a bunch of Blake's 7 and/or scifi fans meeting up at a pub near the station, and chatting about fannish things. New and old fans are welcome, and the meet runs from around 12.20 'til 19.00

For info, see this post.

08:54 am - Back in Brizzle
Back from meeting with geek friends in Birmingham -- a really nice chance to see everyone, even if we didn't get nearly enough sleep! Thank you for the conversation, cake, and general sitting-around-on-computers-together. Hopefully I won't go quite so long without seeing you lot next time.

My little folding bike had a nice adventure travelling on trains and through unfamiliar places. It's been a good chum to me, and has that indefinable 'fun to ride' factor. Perhaps one day the other bike can attempt a cycle-only journey to kimbarakta HQ. We pretty much live at either end of the same road ... just separated by about 85 miles ;)

05:49 pm - In Birmingingingham
with fellow geeks [info]36, [info]englishdude, [info]kimble, [info]windiain, [info]gerwinium, and [info]meeping .  We have many laptops, and there was cheap curry. There is cake.

There is Banksy stuff at the museum back in Brizzle -- that's one thing to do when E&K are around then :)

Bugger all time to read it 'til next week, but hurrah anyway!

06:34 am - I hate it when I almost-but-not-quite finish a book during a bath
because I will now be eternally convinced that the book ended when I got out of the bath, and not in that yet-unread bit a few pages ahead. I've already got up the next day, looked at it, and thought 'didn't I finish that yesterday?'

In Bristol today, but then tomorrow going straight from work to Brum. I'm about as prepared as an un-prepared thing. Luckily a bike, a sleeping bag, and a change of clothes are all I really need. *coughlaptopcough* ;)

07:23 pm - We love planetary collisions
The most-viewed new story on the Beeb is the 'Mars might crash into Earth one day' one.

04:39 pm - Book Sale
Uni library book sale today. These are always dangerous. I nearly didn't manage it as I was having a Holmes day in bed for my day off...but then I remembered that I usually get up at 05.50 for work, and so my five hour lie-in wasn't too bad at all. I bussed it into town for a change, and went to look over the leavings of yesterday's sale. There is something very sad about a dead library (the continuing education library closed some time ago, to be merged into the Arts & Social Sciences library) but there was no time for groom as BOOKS NEEDED RE-HOMING.

Modest book haul )

I lugged my books to the bus stop, and nipped into Forbidden Planet to look at Holmesy things. The Hound of the Baskervilles I have on order via teh internets was there, and I flicked through it - tasty! I also looked at the second in the Dynamite Comics Holmes series which I'm supposedly ignoring 'til a trade paperback arrives. It seems that Holmes has been imprisoned for some crime, Moriarty involved, etc etc... Watson looks very rough and unshaven, presumably due to ANGST. I ummed and ahhed over buying the second part anyway, and then my bus came and I buggered off home.
Current Mood: wondering where to magically conjour some shelf space from

09:55 am - 'Delightful' election results
And by delightful I mean thoroughly depressing. Dodgy, right wing and racist parties took a ton of votes, as many feared. Also, what's with yet more not-voting? Isn't it worth getting off your arse just to cast an anti-racist vote? Apparently not.
